The new E-Class convertible rounds off Mercedes-Benz's E-Class family. And it’s big: 12 centimeters longer, 7 centimeters wider, and it has an 11-centimeter longer wheelbase than its predecessor. That translates into plenty of space.

 

The Mercedes 280 E/8 was aimed at customers for whom the S Class was just beyond reach. The series was launched in 1968 and reached its zenith in 1972 with the 280 E sedan. Most of the 280s had a 4-cylinder engine under the hood. In the early 1970s, the 280 was among the fastest sedans on German roads.
 

Since 1993, the C class – Mercedes' smallest rear-wheel drive vehicle – has been its mid-range flagship. Drive It compared a 1996 car with the 150-kilowatt C250 Bluetec Diesel.

A look at the Mercedes E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID with 4-cylinder diesel engine, due to go on sale in Europe this summer. The diesel hybrid will be available as a sedan and a station wagon. The diesel engine boasts 150 kilowatts of power and 500 Nm of torque.The electric motor adds another 20 kilowatts and 250 Nm. Thanks to its space-saving modular design, with lithium-ion battery, the diesel hybrid is as spacious as its non-hybrid counterparts. The price tag for the sedan in Germany: 51,800 euros, that's around 3500 euros more than the standard diesel E-Class with comparable fittings.
